SANTA CRUZ, BOLIVIA - An angry mob of protesters set fire to a sugar refinery sunday night.

About 800 street vendors marched to the San Aurelio sugar refinery claiming the refinery had kicked them off their land.

The protesters brought bats and set off firecrackers and battled 400 refinery workers.

The protesters got inside the refinery fence, a fire started and the refinery offices were ransacked.

A fire truck arrived, but protesters prevented it from entering the refinery grounds.

Refinery officials said the fire and vandalism did at least $20,000 in damages, no word from the refinery on whether or not it confiscated vendors’ land.
