Diaporama « Slaves in Paradise » - Dominican Republic

Celine Anaya Gautier, 29 years old, lives and works in Paris. From the age of 9 to the age of 18, she lived in Peru. Back in France, she started working as an air hostess. Thanks to her job, she visited with passion many different countries, she was confronted to misery and decided to get involved in humanitarian action, mainly in Peru. First, she worked with children sick from AIDS, who are often orphans and always rejected. She also took care of children living in the streets who are exploited in brick factories.

In 2004, she made her first report “Women’s Heart” and she obtained Kodak’s Talent Grant for reports. She was also part of the 20 people who were awarded Marcel Bleustein Blanchet Grant (5000 participants) and she was granted Youngsters Challenge Grant by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. On 4th March 2005, she published a book “Women’s Heart” at La Martinière publisher. She just finished a report on Haitian sugarcane workers in Dominican Republic, called “Slaves in Paradise”. This report has already been published in several magazines. She is preparing a book on the same topic which will be sold with a CD of traditional Haitian songs, sung by sugarcane workers.

 

Os first foreigners tourist of the Dominician Republic Island are french and the first consumer of domincan sugarcane are north-americans.
