The Fiji Sugar Corporation will lay off some of its mill workforce once the mill upgrade works at all its sugar mills around the country are completed.
FSC chief executive officer Deo Saran says they will consult the unions as the company wants to down size the current work-force.
“The work force organization is off course a major part of the reform program for the sugar industry and in particular FSC, so we will be certainly be looking at our work force as part of the reform program, naturally we got to engage with the unions to have a effective and as smooth program.”
Saran says it may be too early to say much on this issue as the mill upgrade work is still continuing in Lautoka, Rarawai and the Labasa sugar mill.
