Amritsar, September 08 Castigating the SAD-BJP Government for not keeping the pre-poll promise, over 75 workers from various cooperative sugar mills across Punjab have threatened to commit mass suicide outside the residence of Cooperatives Minister Captain Kanwaljit Singh in Chandigarh on September 16.

Members of the Cooperative Sugar Mills Workers' Federation said the SAD-BJP combine had promised that the six closed mills would be run by the Government .

They said they have not been given benefits, including timely payment of wages and merging of DA with salaries, which have been awarded by the Haryana Government . "Over 5,000 labourers from these sugar mills have not been paid their wages for over a year," said Balwinder Singh Zeera, state convener of the federation.
