"World sugar and ethanol - new cards, new game…"

The world sugar economy is like a kaleidoscope: permanently and significantly changing features and shapes reflecting its tremendous diversity and dense complexity. This year’s seminar tries to embrace the hot issues and demanding challenges the world sugar industry is facing in a rapidly transforming and more and more globalized, competitive environment.

Our NGO Ethical Sugar will be participating to the anual ISO seminar as guest.

Policy Reform for all stakeholders but also on the stunning new market developments, showing the highest prices for 25 years, trade perspectives and the future opportunities in a rapidly growing biofuels sector. How does the strong competition for sucrose and ethanol influence the sugar market dynamics? To which extent will the higher crude oil prices further the economic viability of diversification programmes into ethanol?

A strong Brazilian component will examine the role of the sugar and ethanol giant for the world markets.

All these aspects and other relevant questions will be analysed by authoritative speakers assessing possible options for action and giving an informed outlook. The highly topical programme will offer a unique opportunity to debate in an economic and policy related context all pertinent problems regarding the future prospects of the world sugar economy.

The Chairman of the Seminar will be Mr. Mohammed El Mardi Eltigani, Managing Director, Kenana Sugar Company Ltd, Sudan, Chairman of the International Sugar Council, 2005, and one of the most experienced and highly respected sugar industry leaders in Africa and the Middle East with an excellent international reputation.

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in English, French, Russian, Spanish, German & Portuguese.
