Nairobi — Sugar imports from Tanzania should attract 100 per cent duty because the country is not a member of the Comesa bloc.

Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) now wants the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to ensure that all importers pay applicable levies before being allowed to sell the commodity in the domestic market.

Board chairman Okoth Obado asked the taxman’s staff working in border towns of the two East African nations to be more vigilant and seal illegal entry points through which the sugar could be smuggled into the country.
