To lead and support on the field social development programs intended for the sugarcane workers.

Overall objective

To initiate a series of meetings based on social dialogue between the different stakeholders.

Specific objectives

To draw up plans for financing programs on the field within a sustainable development strategy.
To enhance multi-stakeholders social dialogue and good corporate governance.
To set up public and private partnerships in order to improve workers’ social conditions.

On-going actions and planned projects

Launching of a consciousness-raising campaign on the communitarian and social impacts of the mechanization process.
Organisation of an International Meeting on Biofuels in São Paulo, November 2008.
Presenting of proposals to the public donors (European Commission and Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
Development and consolidation of partnerships with companies involved in the improvement of workers social conditions, through their Foreign Direct Investment.

Expected results

The achievement of local development programs, contributing to improve sugarcane workers’ living conditions.

The integration within companies’ policies of effective measures to ensure an increasing Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility.
