The Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited is set to generate six megawatts of biogas three of which would be used by the factory and the surplus sold to Umeme, the Company's Chief Executive Manager, S.C. Khan has said.
"We have injected $6m in this power project, which has already kicked off and within a few weeks, we shall be able to generate six megawatts of electricity," Khan said while meeting the district resident commissioner, Mr Deo Kayiwa Nsereko, who was touring the factory. He said Umeme, the power supplying company in the country, would use the surplus to boost its services, which have deteriorated recently.
The venture would go a long way to help alleviate the power shortage the country is currently experiencing.
