THE Indian nationals brought to install equipment at Fiji Sugar Corporation mills said their working conditions have improved.
One of them, Adul Modin, said there was a lot of improvement in their wages and allowance.
He said their families in India have been receiving allowance. Mr Modin is expected to return to India soon. He
Mr Modin and 24 men from India said their working conditions and pay had changed following an investigation by the Government and the media publicity.
Earlier, the men stayed in a four-bedroom quarters at FSC Ba and worked 12 hours a day, six days a week and received $10 allowance.
They had rice and dhal or vegetable every meal except on Sunday. The men are part of a team here to install new equipment at the Lautoka, Labasa and Rarawai sugar mills.
Meanwhile, former Labour senator Gaffar Ahmed thanked the FSC, Labour departments and the Occupational Health and Safety department for carrying out the necessary investigations into the Indian nationals' case.
