UK : Demolition begins at sugar plant
Demolition work has started at the disused British Sugar factory in York which closed down last year with the loss of 100 jobs.
The site has been one of the most distinctive landmarks on the city's western skyline for the past 80 years.
British Sugar announced its closure in 2006, saying it was not handling enough sugar beet to operate at full capacity.
Once demolition is completed next year, the land will be redeveloped, with a large area to be used for new housing.
