The UNCTAD intergovernmental Expert Meeting on the Participation of Developing Countries in New Dynamic Sectors of World Trade: Review of the Energy Sector is scheduled to be held on 29 November-1 December 2006 at Palais des Nations, Geneva. A full day - 30 November - will be devoted to biofuels.
Our NGO will participate to the UNCTAD expert workshop as guest.
The day will be divided in four sessions. Panel 1 will address overarching issues (trade, development and regulatory aspects of the biofuels option); Panel 2 will deal with economic diversification and food security concerns, including possible synergy and complementarities between the energy and the agricultural sectors; Panel 3 will address issues related to the investment needs in the biofuel and feedstock sectors and will explore the CDM option. Panel 4 will be devoted to the technological dimension of biofuels, with special emphasis on developing country access to present and forthcoming energy technology.
