Harare — Government has finally endorsed the relocation of 1 000 families from Nuanetsi Ranch in Mwenezi to pave way for a multi-million dollar bio-energy project bankrolled by the Zimbabwe Bio Energy.
The project which includes the installation of an ethanol plant imported from Brazil, a cane spirit plant, a sugar plant, sugarcane plantation and a crocodile farm, is set to be Masvingo’s single largest investment since independence.
Years of bickering, mudslinging and resistance by villagers occupying the vast swathe of land had over the past two years stalled the implementation of the project.
This prompted the Government to intervene and secure land to relocate them.
The villagers will now be relocated to an alternative land allocated to them by the Masvingo land development committee north of Tokwe River in Mwenezi.
Under the final agreement, ZBE has undertaken to finance the relocation process and the construction of new houses.
